The arrival of Splash Mountain to Walt Disney World’s Frontierland brought a handful of small, but significant changes to a land that hadn’t received much attention since the opening of Big Thunder Mountain in 1979: large clean bathrooms, McDonald’s fries and a new area music loop.
When Blizzard Beach opened on April Fool’s Day in 1994, I was fortunate enough to be able to be there. It was a bit chilly that day, but the park’s many slides and other experiences (what other water park has a ski lift?) instantly made it one of my favorite places on property.
