If you were fortunate enough to visit EPCOT Center between 1983 and 1998, then you probably got to see one of WDI’s masterpieces, Journey Into Imagination.

The two revamped versions that followed kept most of the name, but none of the charm, wit or actual teaching about imagination. The original ride taught more about the creative process in its first six minutes than any seminar that I’ve ever attended.

Why was the attraction so successful? Besides having likable and memorable characters in The Dreamfinder and Figment, who are now making a comeback in comic book form, the attraction had three absolutely killer tunes written by the Sherman Brothers, “One Little Spark,” “Magic Journeys” and “Makin’ Memories.”

With only two songs to draw from, the arrangers of the pavilion’s area music didn’t have a lot to work with, so they concentrated on coming up with many unique arrangements of the three songs. Marimba and bells version? You got it! Football fight song? Gotcha covered! Waltz? Why not!

Rumors persist that there is a 4th revision to the attraction slated to happen sometime in the near future, which may bring back The Dreamfinder. Until then, then best we can do it listen to music loops like this and use our imaginations.

This recording was made on 1/21/95.

And what’s even better? Still hearing this in the JII pavilion bathrooms.

I run the loop continually in my bathroom at home. I highly recommend that everyone does it.
