The arrival of Splash Mountain to Walt Disney World’s Frontierland brought a handful of small, but significant changes to a land that hadn’t received much attention since the opening of Big Thunder Mountain in 1979: large clean bathrooms, McDonald’s fries and a new area music loop.
While the version that ran through the ’80s was cinematic (and needle-drop music), the new loop introduced in the ’90s was played by a smaller, tight group of musicians and was most likely custom-recorded for the land, possibly by the same group which recorded the wonderful Splash Mountain area loop. The arrangements are well thought out and I’d guess that this group either loved the material, had played with each other for a few years, or both, as their happiness come through in the recording.
This recording was made on February 9, 1995, from a speaker in the bushes between the edge of Frontierland and Splash Mountain.
